Brilliant service, picked and collected vehicle as agreed and very, very reasonable charge. The cheapest quote we had. Paul was very helpful and sent me a photo once delivered. First time we used them, but would definitely recommend them.
Vehicle transport27 Years Recovering VehiclesAround Milton Keynes
Church Street Recovery MK is Paul. One person, one truck. The man who answers the phone is the man who arrives.
No call centre in the middle
It has been Paul's business, and his alone, for 27 years, working out of Milton Keynes. There's no dispatcher, and the job doesn't get subcontracted to whoever happens to be free. Ring at two in the morning and you get the same person you'd get at two in the afternoon.
On the rare day Paul is ill or away, his son Carl covers. Same truck, same number, same way of working. What doesn't happen is the job being handed to a stranger.
What 27 years actually buys you
Local knowledge, mostly. Knowing which estates are awkward to get a recovery vehicle into. Knowing the spots on the A5 and the M1 where cars tend to stop. Knowing how a particular model needs to be loaded so nothing gets damaged.
Twenty-seven years also covers a lot of ground. Motorway breakdowns and cars in ditches. Classics that haven't turned a wheel since the nineties. Dealership deliveries, flat batteries on school runs, and the occasional job that needed three attempts and a longer winch cable.
It also means a lot of repeat customers, and local garages who ring Paul when they need a car moved. That isn't something a new operator can manufacture.
What people actually say
From 252 Google reviews, the large majority of them five star. The ones below are real, trimmed for length but never reworded.
Car broken down and needed a recovery near Milton Keynes. Found Paul's recovery service online and he was able to get to me in 30 mins, which is amazing.
Breakdown recoveryToday my car battery died and I had no jumper cables when Paul drove into the car park I was in… In minutes my car started again and I was given great advice from him which as a new driver I greatly appreciate.
Jump startThey were brilliant. Got a quote the same day (which was significantly cheaper than others). Arrived early. Very professional and friendly. I thought I would have to go with Paul to drop the car off but he sorted everything for me. Really great service - would definitely recommend using them.
Vehicle transportCannot recommend this company highly enough. They are very professional, friendly and courteous and took the stress out of trying to arrange for our broken down vehicle to be transported home.
Breakdown recoveryOutstanding service. Arrived within 5mins of appointment. Polite, and very professional. Qualities rarely seen these days, also reasonable price.
Car movementsHe picked me up from the side of the road in -3 degrees in brilliant time and took me and the car to the garage. On the way he got a job close to home and offered me a lift back as well after dropping my car off.
Breakdown recoveryPaul came over at short notice and moved the car which wouldn't start to the local mechanic. When they didn't have the Honda software he took the car to another garage. Speedy and friendly service and half the price of another quote I got.
Garage knowledgeI had my car collected this morning and had no issues whatsoever. They showed up on time (even slightly early). Friendly and professional service, very reasonable prices, great communication before and after recovery.
Car movementsOur car recently broke down at the most inconvenient time and place. I called Paul and within 30 minutes it was all sorted… he also dropped us off at the train station so that we could continue with our plans.
Breakdown recoveryPaul is knowledgeable, friendly and he comes with a plethora of great advice. Nothing is too much trouble for him, no matter what time you call on him.
27 years on the roadHe was extremely helpful, got to us as quickly as possible, helped put us all at ease in what was a very stressful situation and got us where we needed to be. His knowledge and expertise were amazing.
Breakdown recoveryPaul was amazing. So friendly and helpful and even recommended a good garage to get my car fixed… Fantastic service. Thanks so much for making a rubbish Friday evening a lot nicer!
Garage knowledgeI had no idea which garage to use but Paul kindly recommended a number of garages and the one I picked also provided an excellent service. Can't thank Paul enough and would have no hesitation in recommending him.
Garage knowledgeI've used Paul quite a few times now! He's always been friendly and super helpful. Even on the couple of occasions when he's been unable to help he's made sure to recommend others who can.
Garage knowledgeI recently moved into a new property and I needed to bring my non-running car with me… his service was quick and safe. During the transport he took care of my car by driving slowly over the speed bumps.
Vehicle transportYou came to start my hybrid, knew exactly what to do to safely start the car. To top it off, you gave me the reassurance that you'd come out free of charge if I needed help for the same problem on the same day!
Jump startOur family was stranded far from home. Paul was very quick to respond, attend and do everything possible to sort the car, and us, out… he also connected us with a local garage, making sure we were looked after.
Breakdown recoveryGreat service from Paul, who looked after my cherished Saab 900 Turbo, transporting it to have it's gearbox repaired. Will certainly use his services again if required. Highly recommended.
Vehicle transportI very strongly recommend you give Carl/Paul a ring. Towed my life's work racecar to our new property, to perfection… excellent communication, arrived early, no time wasted in getting the car shifted safely and quickly, at a very fair price.
Vehicle transportPaul collected and delivered my new car from a seller on eBay 100 miles away from where I live. Given lockdown I had not seen the car, so he checked it over to make sure it was ok… frankly the cost unbelievably good value.
Vehicle transportWhen we need a car delivered 100% on time, we will always turn to Paul at Church Street Recovery. He represents our company exceptionally when delivering client vehicles. Always able to get a vehicle moved at short notice.
Vehicle transportWhat customers mention
The themes that come up repeatedly in those reviews are punctuality, being polite and straightforward, calling back quickly, and fair pricing. Not the most exciting qualities to advertise, but when your car has stopped on a cold night they're the only ones that matter.
Knowing which garages are any good
Most people only think about where the car should go once it has already stopped. It's the question Paul gets asked most, and the one he's best placed to answer.
Recovery work means delivering cars to garages. Not occasionally, but most days, for 27 years. You learn which places ring the customer back the same afternoon and which leave a car sitting for a fortnight. Which ones quote before the work starts and which add to the bill afterwards. Which are honest about a job being beyond them rather than having a go anyway.
And you see the cars that come back on the truck a month later with the same fault. That tells you more about a garage than any review page ever will.
There's no arrangement behind any of it. Paul takes no commission from any garage, so a recommendation is only ever a recommendation. If it were worth money to him, it wouldn't be worth much to you.
So if you haven't got a garage, say so on the phone. Paul will tell you where he'd take it himself, and why. If you already have one you trust, the car goes there instead, even if it's further out. It's your car and your choice. The point is that you shouldn't have to guess.
How the job has changed
Twenty-seven years ago most recovery work was a rope, a solid towing eye and a car that would roll. Nearly everything on the road now needs lifting clear instead. Automatics, four-wheel drives, hybrids and electric cars all object to having their driven wheels turned with the engine off, and electric parking brakes mean a flat battery can leave a car close to immovable.
The equipment has had to keep up, and so has the knowledge. Knowing where the recovery point is on a particular model, which cars need skates rather than a winch, and which ones will sit down on their suspension if you load them wrong, is the part that takes years rather than money.
What has not changed
Answering the phone. Turning up when you said. Telling someone the honest price before you set off rather than after. That part has been the same since the first year, and it is why most of the work now comes from people who have used it before, or from local garages ringing about a customer's car.
