Car Recovery and Breakdownin Milton Keynes

Available 24 hours a day. Breakdown recovery, jump starts, winching and local car movements, across Milton Keynes and roughly an hour around it.

One call reaches the person driving the recovery vehicle. No call centre, no queue.

What's covered

Four jobs, one number. Most calls around Milton Keynes are one of these.

Breakdown recovery

The car has stopped and won't restart, or isn't safe to drive. It gets loaded properly and taken where it needs to go: your garage, your driveway, or wherever you decide. Most local breakdowns are short runs, but longer ones are fine too.

Jump starts

A flat battery is the single most common call. Lights left on, a cold morning, or a battery that has quietly been dying for weeks. In most cases a jump start has the car running within minutes and you drive away, rather than paying for recovery you didn't need. If the battery won't hold, you'll be told straight away.

Winching

For a vehicle that has left the road. Stuck in mud, a wheel dropped into a ditch, slid onto a verge, or bogged down on a field entrance. Winching pulls it back out under control, which matters because this is where cars get damaged by well-meaning attempts with a tow rope.

Car movements

Moving a vehicle locally, whether it runs or not. Garage to home, home to garage, a house move, a sold car going to its new owner, or a non-runner that needs shifting off a driveway.

How it works

1. You call

Day or night, on 07734 354239. You speak to the driver, not a call handler.

2. You say where you are

Postcode, junction, car park, whatever you can give. Plus what the car is doing.

3. You get a real estimate

An actual arrival time and a price, not a four-hour window and a surprise later.

4. The car gets moved

Loaded properly and taken wherever you've decided it needs to go. No garage in mind? Ask on the phone. After 27 years of delivering cars to them, Paul knows which local ones do good work.

What it costs

Recovery pricing comes down to two things: how far the vehicle has to travel, and how awkward it is to reach. A jump start on a driveway and a winch recovery out of a waterlogged field aren't the same job, so there's no single price list.

What you get is a straight figure over the phone before anything happens, so you can decide. The quote takes about a minute.

Common questions

What's the difference between recovery and towing?

Towing drags the car along on its own wheels. Recovery lifts it clear and carries it. Recovery is safer for the car, and is usually what's needed after a breakdown, an accident, or when a car can't roll safely.

How quickly can you get to me?

It depends where you are and what's already booked in. You'll get an honest estimate on the phone rather than an optimistic one.

Do you recover vans as well as cars?

Yes, vans and light commercials as well as cars.

My car won't start. Do I need recovery or a jump start?

Often a jump start is enough, and it costs less. Describe the symptoms on the phone and you'll get a view before anyone sets off.

Can you get a car out of mud or a ditch?

Yes, that's what winching is for. Call before trying to pull it out yourself, as that's usually where the expensive damage happens.

Are you available at night and at weekends?

Yes, 24 hours a day, every day.

Where will you take my car?

Wherever you want it: your garage, your driveway, or a bodyshop. If you haven't got a garage, say so. Paul has spent 27 years delivering cars to garages around Milton Keynes and sees which ones do the work properly and which ones don't, so he'll tell you where he'd take it himself. He takes no commission from any of them. More on that here.

What to do before anyone arrives

Where you wait matters more than people expect, and it changes depending on the road.

On a motorway or dual carriageway

Get onto the hard shoulder or into an emergency area if you can. Hazards on, everyone out through the passenger-side doors, and behind the barrier. Do not stand between the car and live lanes. If you cannot get off the carriageway and cannot leave the vehicle safely, stay belted in and ring 999.

On an ordinary road

Get as far off the carriageway as the car will go, hazards on, and get out and away from traffic if there is a verge and a safe gap. On a residential street or a car park it is far less urgent, and staying with the car is usually fine.

Take your things with you

Phone, charger, keys, documents and anything valuable. If the car is going to a garage it may sit on a forecourt overnight. Child seats are the one people always forget.

Have the details ready

Exactly where you are, what the car is, what it is doing, and where it needs to go. Also whether it rolls and steers, because that decides what equipment is needed.

Cars, vans and awkward jobs

Cars and light commercials both, and a fair amount of work that does not fit neatly into a category.

Automatics, four-wheel drives, hybrids and electric cars all need lifting clear rather than towing on their wheels, because turning the driven wheels with the engine off can damage a gearbox or generate current through an electric motor. Mention what the car is when you ring and the right vehicle turns up.

Non-runners, cars with no keys, seized brakes and accident damage are all routine. They take longer to load than a car that rolls and steers, which is why it is worth saying so on the phone rather than on arrival.

Broken down now?

No call centre. No hold music. The phone goes straight to me.
