Car Disposal and Unwanted Car Collectionin Milton Keynes
Collection of end-of-life, non-running and unwanted vehicles across Milton Keynes. It does not need to start, and it does not need to roll.
One call reaches the person driving the recovery vehicle. No call centre, no queue.
A car that isn’t worth fixing still has to physically leave your driveway. That is the job here. The vehicle gets collected, loaded properly and taken wherever it is going, whether that is a scrapyard, a buyer, an auction or a licensed treatment facility. You get a straight figure on the phone before anything is arranged.
What gets collected
Four situations cover most calls.
Cars that have reached the end
An MOT failure with a repair bill worth more than the car. A long-standing fault that has finally won. These go off to be scrapped, and the useful parts come off them first.
Non-runners
It doesn’t start, the brakes have seized, there are no keys, or a wheel is off. None of that is a problem. It gets winched or lifted onto the truck rather than driven, so a car that cannot move under its own power is an ordinary job.
Insurance write-offs
A car declared a write-off still has to get from where it is to where the insurer or the buyer wants it. Damaged vehicles need loading carefully, which is the difference between recovery and a tow rope.
Cars left behind
A vehicle that came with a house, sat on a drive for years, or belonged to a relative who has died. These are usually untaxed, often flat, and frequently have no paperwork to hand. They still need shifting, and it is a routine collection.
The DVLA bit, which matters more than people think
This is the part that catches people out, and it is worth getting right, because it is your name on the record until you do something about it.
Tell the DVLA. Until you do, you are still the registered keeper as far as they are concerned. That means tax reminders, and it means you are the person they come to about that vehicle. Handing the keys over does not do it on its own.
If it is being scrapped, it should go to an Authorised Treatment Facility. Only an ATF can issue a Certificate of Destruction, and the facility notifies the DVLA when it does. Keep that certificate. It is your proof the car is gone.
If you are selling it on rather than scrapping it, use the V5C to tell the DVLA who the new keeper is, exactly as you would with any sale.
If it is going nowhere yet and is parked off the road, declare it SORN so you are not paying tax on a car you are not using.
One thing worth knowing. In England and Wales nobody can pay you in cash for a scrap vehicle. That has been the law since 2013. Payment has to be by bank transfer or cheque, and anyone offering you notes for a scrap car is not doing it properly.
What it costs
It depends on two things: where the vehicle is, and where it is going. A flat car on a level driveway five minutes away is not the same job as one wedged behind a garage on the other side of town.
Whether there is anything to pay, or anything to come back to you, depends on the vehicle itself and its destination. That is a short conversation rather than a published number, and you will get a straight answer on the phone before anything is booked.

Does the car need to start?
No. It gets loaded onto the truck rather than driven away, so a car that will not start, will not steer or will not roll is still a normal collection. Say what state it is in when you ring, because it changes how it gets lifted.
Does it need tax and an MOT?
Not for the collection itself, because it is being carried rather than driven. Where it is parked matters more than what is on its record, so mention that on the phone.
What if I have lost the V5C?
You can apply to the DVLA for a replacement. It is worth doing, because the paperwork is what proves the vehicle is no longer yours.
Can you collect from somewhere that isn’t my home?
Yes. Garages, car parks, lock-ups, verges and fields are all routine, as long as whoever controls the land is happy for the vehicle to be taken.
Can you take more than one at a time?
Often yes, depending on the vehicles and the access. If you have a couple to clear, say so when you ring and it may work out cheaper than two separate trips.
Car that needs to go?
Tell us what it is, where it is and whether it moves. You will get a figure and a day.
